Abstract:
The Alazani River is a major watercourse in the Kakheti region, traditionally the agricultural province of Georgia. Viticulture, the leading field, is supplemented by fruit-growing, cultivation of cereals and intensive stock farming in the Alazani River Valley. Total catchment area of the Alazani River is 11,800 km2, with 6,962 km2 of the area located in Georgia. The upper Alazani pilot watershed area, for which the given Integrated Natural Resources Management Plan (hereafter Integrated Watershed Management Plan-IWMP]) is developed, encompasses the Akhmeta and Telavi municipalities, covering more than 3,300 km2 area.1
