|a A new terrestrial vegetation map of Biscayne National Park (BISC) was commissioned by The National Park Service Inventory and Monitoring Program South Florida /Caribbean Network. By providing a spatial inventory of the plant communities within the BISC, this map, along with existing data, will allow resource managers to effectively focus their restoration efforts and resources on communities that are indicative of relic or pristine conditions, or communities that are likely to benefit the most from active management. Furthermore, this map, with its 1:300
scale shoreline, serves as a turn-of-the-century baseline for the extent of mangroves within Biscayne National Park and, as a result, can be used to monitor the effects of sea-level rise on the wetlands and forested communities of Biscayne National Park for years to come. |
