For each country brief the document provides a presentation of its disaster risks, including hazards and vulnerabilities, and the institutional framework for its disaster management. It also presents DRR activities related to education and those undertaken by national authorities and international organizations. According to the report, in some countries the government has already included elements of DRR in the formal education system, while in others certain activities are undertaken by national and international organizations. Existing documents, including country-level reports and HFA National Reports are reviewed, as well as data sources like the Emergency Events Database (EM-DAT). The report found that the majority of countries in this review focus on rescue and relief rather than the more complex cross-cutting efforts required for DRR, prevention, and mitigation. It recommends that the countries embrace, as part of their work plans, the inclusion of DRR knowledge in relevant sections of school curricula at all levels, and to use other formal and informal channels to reach youth and children with DRR information.
