Abstract:
"Monsignor William Barry led the parish of St. Patrick's Catholic Church as it celebrated its first Mass in 1926 at the Miami Beach Garden Theater. By June 2, 1926, Masses were held in refurbished polo stables that Carl Fisher had donated for the church and school. Within three months, the stables were devastated by the Great Hurricane of 1926, but were repaired and used until 1928, when the parish built the church shown on this 1937 postcard. The church is located at 3700 Garden Avenue and is used by the parish to this day." -- From Miami in vintage postcard. By Patricia Kennedy. 2000.
General Note:
1 postcard, postally unused; caption on recto: "St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Campanile Tower, Miami Beach, Fla."; "402"
General Note:
"The St. Patrick's Catholic Church is located in the 41st Street section of Miami Beach. The Campanile is shown in this picture. In archaeology, a Campanile is a Bell-Tower, a term applied especially to detached buildings in some parts of Italy, erected for the purpose of containing bells used in Devine services. The two western towers of St. Paul's Cathedral, London and St. Peter's, at Rome are Campaniles." -- From verso.
