Summary:
Garth Reeves interviewed at Turner Tech in Miami, Florida, on March 2, 2006. This interview is part of the Turner Tech Oral History Archive, a collection of Turner Tech students' oral history interviews that grows every year. Each year, Turner Tech students utilize their technical skills learned in the school to capture local history and honor the community's pioneer citizens. Students interview, record, transcribe and reproduce the memories of Miami residents, with a focus on civil rights. Garth Reeves was born in Nassau, Bahamas and moved to Miami, Florida in 1919. In this interview, Garth Reeves talks about his feelings about living and growing up in "overtown" in Miami, his life in the then-segregated U.S. Army during 1942-1946, his memory of the war (WWII) and his experience with prejudice and discrimination.
