This interview is part of the Turner Tech Oral History Archive, a collection of Turner Tech students' oral history interviews that grows every year. Each year, Turner Tech students utilize their technical skills learned in the school to capture local history and honor the community's pioneer citizens. Students interview, record, transcribe and reproduce the memories of Miami residents, with a focus on civil rights. G. Holmes Braddock was born in 1925, was a member of the Miami-Dade County School Board for 38 years, serving as a chairperson multiple times. As a Chairperson of the Board in 1969 - 1970, he championed the school districts rigorous effort to desegregate. The interview starts with Mr.Braddock's talking about school integration and his instrumental role in the the desegregation process. He then talks about Martin Luther King, Ralph Abernathy and the Arthur McDuffie riot. He also comments on Bush's educational program and introduces his personal view on public education. He concludes the interview with what else can be done to improve the equity in the school system.
