Summary:
Marion Larmond Hope interviewed by Kimberly Thomas at Turner Tech in Miami, Florida, on March 26, 2002. This interview is part of the Turner Tech Oral History Archive, a collection of Turner Tech students' oral history interviews that grows every year. Each year, Turner Tech students utilize their technical skills learned in the school to capture local history and honor the community's pioneer citizens. Students interview, record, transcribe and reproduce the memories of Miami residents, with a focus on civil rights. Marion Larmond Hope was born and raised in Miami, Florida. In this interview, Hope talks about her family background and her feelings about growing up and living in a predominantly black neighborhood in Miami. She also describs her personal experience of segregated education in high school in 1960s, how hard her family fought for her to get in Madison Junior High and how she was treated different in the school because of her race. Hope briefly discussed the Arthur McDuffie riots in Miami in 1980. ( English )
