Notes

Abstract:
Royal Palm Hotel was built by Henry Flagler and opened in 1897. Painted yellow with green rim, it had 350 rooms and 200 baths, a grand ballroom, and a dining room for over 500 people, a veranda overlooking the bay, and a swimming pool. The hotel was declared a fire hazard and torn down in June 1930. This postcard shows the changing times as some guests arrived by horse and carriage, while others departed by automobile. The S.S. Miami passed in the distance on the way to Key West. -- From Miami in Vintage Postcards, by Patricia Kennedy, 2000.
