General Note:
Circa 1960s Exclusive North Beach Section - Miami Beach, With its famous hotel row and Bath Club in the foreground is the St. Francis Hospital - Color photograph by H. W. Hanau. Aerial photographic illustration of North Miami Beach and Allison Island. Allison Island was named after James Allison and built by Carl G. Fisher in the 1920s. James Allison hired architect August Geiger to build a hospital on the island. After the 1926 hurricane, the hospital turned to the Sisters of St. Francis and was renamed St. Francis Hospital in 1929. Allison Island's southern addition was done in the 1950s and the hospital closed and was sold in 1992.
