Description
Herb Sosa loves historic buildings and when asked for an interview for the Miami Beach Visual Memoirs Project he suggested a "quiet corner" in the sanctuary of the Miami Beach Community Church, built by Carl Fisher on land he donated on Lincoln Mall. It is also Herb's church. He talked about his passion for historic preservation which led to his involvement with the Miami Design Preservation League and its founder, Barbara Baer Capitman. We discussed the enormous role of the gay community in the struggle to preserve the Art Deco and MiMo districts. The preservation movement helped unify and strengthen the gay community and their commitment to Barbara and MDPL were vital in the successful campaign. Herb heads the Unity Coalition, an organization that advocates for the wellbeing of the LGBTQ community.
