Description
"Weihaiwei was a strategic port in Shandong Province, opposite from Port Arthur. Japanese troops landed just south from Weihaiwei on December 20th, and quickly captured several artillery batteries along the coast. This campaign was the deadliest for the Japanese , but not because of the fierce resistance, but from bitter winter storms.
The siege of the Weihaiwei port lasted 23 days. It was a combined land and naval battle, resulting in the destruction or complete surrender of the Chinese Northern Fleet and the fall of the strategic port. The Chinese pushed for negotiations a few days later"--From label.
