Description

It must be kept in mind that the paramters which we monitored relate primarily to the aesthetic, soil, and understory plant comnunity characteristics of the study sites. Within the time frame available to us for this study, it was necessary to concentrate on components of the system which we could reasonably expect to see changes in within a relatively short time. We were aware that woody components of the forested Big Cypress Swamp cormunities are much sloer growing than the herbaceous components, and that we would not be able to quantitatively measure their long term recovery from impacts. However, despite the lack of quantitative data, it can safely be said that 50 to 300 year old trees which have been killed.in the course of ORV use or trail construction cannot be expected to recover by regrowth in less than 50 to 300 years.
