The Historic Hampton House Museum & Cultural Center, originally the Hampton House Motel and Villas, is the last remaining Green Book motel in Miami. Built in 1953, it became a central gathering place for Miami’s Black community and welcomed athletes, political activists, musicians, and others during their visits to the city. By 1976, as integration shifted economic activity away from Brownsville and surrounding neighborhoods, the Hampton House was briefly used as low-income housing before falling into disrepair. In the early 2000s, preservation efforts led by Dr. Enid Pinkney and Dade Heritage Trust secured funding and historical designation for the site. The building reopened in 2015 as the Historic Hampton House Museum & Cultural Center. Today, it hosts community events, educational programs, art exhibits, and more. On February 7, 2022, the Historic Hampton House was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
