Early Everglades National Park History is a collection of materials that highlight efforts to establish Everglades National Park, leading up to its dedication in 1947. This assembly of photographs, meeting minutes, and documents from the Records of the Superintendent’s Office and Records of the Everglades National Park Commission features the efforts of prominent figures, including Ernest F. Coe, May Mann Jennings, and Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes, to bring the idea of a national park in south Florida into reality. The collections are maintained in their entirety by the South Florida Collections Management Center in Everglades National Park and include oversize maps, black and white photographs, reports, correspondence, notes, and memoranda pertaining to early Everglades history.
