Notes

General Note:
The old lift bridge over the intracoastal canal at Boynton Beach, with a man and woman standing at the far end. Historical note: Built in 1914 by C.E. McIntosh to replace a smaller bridge, this vertical lift bridge, when fully extended, offered a vertical clearance of 42 feet, 7 inches, and a horizontal span of 58 feet. Federal guidelines of 1933 required an 80 foot vertical clearance, and so the bridge was condemned. A new bridge was completed in 1936, with money from a bond election and from federal Public Works Administration (PWA) funds.
