Abstract:
In this interview, Michael Orovitz shares his family history and personal experiences growing up and living in Miami, Florida. Born in 1942, Michael reflects on his family's migration to Miami in the 1920s, their Jewish heritage, and their involvement in the community, particularly through Temple Israel and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Michael discusses his father’s contributions to the formation of the State of Israel and his role in establishing Mount Sinai Hospital. He provides insights into his own career in banking, having worked at City National Bank for over 40 years, and his continued dedication to Temple Israel, where he served as president. The interview also touches on the Orovitz family's role in Miami's Jewish history, their involvement in the early tourism industry in Israel, and Michael's reflections on anti-Semitism and the evolution of Miami Beach.
