Abstract:
Emmanuel George interviews Carol Pratt on March 8, 2024 at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center. Carol Pratt was born on November 1, 1949 in Miami, Florida. Mrs. Pratt describes her ancestral background and how her parents and family emigrated from Harbor Island, Bahamas to different parts of South Florida such as Coconut Grove, Key West, and Miami. Carol recalls her childhood in Carver Ranches and attending Attucks High School. She graduated from Attucks High School in 1967. Carol attended Florida Agricultural Mechanical University to become a nurse; however, she changed her major to become a teacher. She transferred to Nova University (now Nova Southeastern University) where she graduated with a degree in Elementary and Primary Education. Carol recounts her first job with Head Start in 1972. She retired from the organization in 2006.
