Abstract:
The oral history with Tim Walker provides a detailed account of his experiences and observations in the Wynwood area of Miami. Walker, who moved to Wynwood in 1995, discusses the transformation of the neighborhood, particularly focusing on the evolution of street art and murals. He describes the early days when Wynwood was an underutilized area with low real estate value, populated by warehouses and manufacturing units. Walker highlights the arrival of graffiti and mural artists, the influence of events like Art Basel, and the gradual shift towards a vibrant art scene. He also touches upon the conflicts between local graffiti crews and out-of-town artists, and the impact of rising real estate values on the original businesses in the area.
