Notes
Abstract:
"This postcard shows the entrance to Carl Fisher's Casino, which was also called Roman Pools. The popular recreational facility clearly shows the strong Mediterranean influence on early South Florida's architecture. Carl Fisher bought John Collin's North Beach Casino, located at Twenty-third Street in what was considered the northern end of the beach at the time. He refurbished the casino and renamed it the Roman Pools. A Dutch windmill was built to pump salt water into two large swimming pools where diving and swimming exhibitions drew large crowds." -- From Miami beach in vintage postcards. By Patricia Kennedy. 2000.
